Are you looking for something to munch on during the big game…or maybe something light to go with a bowl of soup for lunch? Pigs in a Blanket make the perfect appetizer or side dish for a light meal. Add some garlic salt and black pepper to the top of each little bundle to make them even more irresistible.

Pigs in a Blanket

Lit’l Smokies are versatile and can be used in a variety of appetizers and snacks. I have wrapped these little sausages with bacon and baked them with brown sugar to make a sweet and salty snack. You can also heat them in the crockpot or air fryer with barbecue sauce to make a fun little appetizer. And they are delicious when sliced and added to baked beans to amp up the flavor.

So, it should be no surprise that I’d also use them to make a ‘pig in the blanket’. I wrap a lit’l smokie with crescent dough and add some seasonings to the top. Everything Bagel Seasoning is tasty to use or just keep it simple with some garlic salt and black pepper. Yum!

You can dip these snacks in ketchup, barbecue sauce, mustard (any variety), cheese sauce or even Ranch dressing. They come together quickly and get eaten up in no time. They are one of the best appetizers I can think of for the day of the big game or for a fun family gathering.

How to make Pigs in a Blanket?

You will need three ingredients for this recipe…a tube of crescent rolls, a 14-ounce package of lil’ smokies and some garlic salt and pepper for the finishing touch. It’s just that simple. The whole process to make and bake Pigs in a Blanket takes less than 30 minutes.

Tips on working with crescent dough:

  • Open the tube and unroll the dough. Lay it flat on the counter so it is easy to separate at the perforated lines.
  • Spray a bit of cooking spray on your fingertips to prevent the dough from sticking to your hands.
  • Separate the dough at the perforations to form 8 equal triangles. You’ll then want to cut each triangle lengthwise into three longer triangles.
  • After rolling a sausage in dough, place the finished bundles on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper to keep them from getting too brown while in the oven.
