French Silk Pie

The name French Silk Pie might imply that this is a fussy dessert that takes a lot of time and ingredients. But that’s not the case. This decadent dessert is easy to make and requires only a handful of ingredients. And the best part is that it requires absolutely no baking.

Why bother with a dessert that takes up oven space during a busy holiday. Make French Silk Pie on the stovetop in just minutes and chill it in the refrigerator before serving. A cold, creamy, chocolatey pie that your guests will remember long after eating it!

As it is in every pie, the crust is so important. It is, after all, the foundation for the filling and pie toppings. Make the crust with crushed vanilla wafers and melted butter. Mix them together and press the crumbly mixture into a pie plate, then refrigerate it for 10 minutes to set the crust. It is simple, but adds so much flavor and texture to this French Silk Pie.

Why do I need to cook the filling for this pie?

There are two reasons to cook the pie filling in this recipe. First, it helps to melt the sugar and make the filling smooth and sweet. This results in a creamy pie texture. Second, you must pasteurize the eggs in the filling to make them safe to eat. Eggs must be cooked at 160 degrees prior to eating them.
