Hearty Baked Beans

These Hearty Baked Beans are satisfying and can stand alone as a main course with some cornbread and a salad to make a complete meal. Three types of beans, including pinto, butter beans and black beans, are combined with a rich sauce to create this delicious recipe.

Hearty Baked Beans Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 15 ounces pinto beans, rinsed and drained
  • 15 ounces butter beans, rinsed and drained
  • 15 ounces black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 3 slices thick cut bacon, cooked and chopped
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 10 ounces condensed tomato soup
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1/2 cup mild salsa
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • salt and pepper to taste

How to make Hearty Baked Beans?

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  • Cook the ground beef, bacon and onion until no longer pink, about 8 minutes. Drain the excess fat.
  • Drain and rinse all three cans of beans and place them in a 4-quart slow cooker.

  • Add the ground beef, bacon and onions. Stir in the remaining ingredients. Cover and heat on high for 2 hours, reduce heat to low and cook for 1 hour. This recipe makes 8-10 servings.

Ingredients

As the name suggests, these beans can also be put on a 13×9-inch baking dish and baked in the oven for 45-50 minutes until bubbly and thick. Allow them to cool slightly before serving with your favorite foods from the grill.
