Making Homemade Pie Dough may seem difficult and can intimidate even the best bakers. This recipe makes the process easier than you can imagine. Using a food processor is a great way to streamline the process. You’re going to want to add this one to your recipe collection.

Homemade Pie Dough is so versatile, it can be used to make a variety of sweet and savory recipes. I’ve made Caramel Apple Pecan Galette (pictured above), Peach and Blueberry Galette, Chicken Pot Pie, Peach and Rhubarb Slab Pie, Cherry Turnovers, and so much more. It is a basic pie dough recipe, which can be used in so many delicious recipes.
This recipe comes together easily with only three ingredients. And clean up is even easier, since the ingredients are added to food processor and mixed by pulsing them together. Then, wrap and refrigerate the pie dough until you are ready to roll. It couldn’t be simpler.

Homemade Pie Dough
Makes one 10-inch pie crust.
What’s needed:
- 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
- 8 tablespoons of COLD unsalted butter, cubed
- 6 tablespoons COLD water
How to make pie dough?
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Place the flour and the COLD cubed butter in the food processor and cover. Pulse the mixture 9 or 10 times to combine the flour and butter into pea-size chunks.
- Add the cold water slowly while pulsing 3 or 4 more times until the mixture mostly comes together in a ball.
- Place the dough onto a lightly floured work surface and bring it together with your hands to combine the dough.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
- When cold, roll out the dough using a rolling pin on a lightly floured surface. Use it to make a fruit pie, a savory chicken pot pie, hand pies or a large slab pie on a sheet pan.

Don’t get me wrong, I have used store bought pie dough MANY times. It is convenient and can be a real time-saver. But I never regret making my own pie crust, it is flaky and buttery and turns my desserts into something heavenly.
Don’t be intimidated any longer, give this recipe a try and you’ll be surprised at just how easy it is to make homemade pie dough. Use the extra scraps of dough to make almost anything, like these Caramel Apple Palmiers. Yummy!
