Strawberry Smoothie

This has become our favorite recipe for using up frozen strawberries. If you buy them fresh when they are in season and freeze them in airtight bags, they make the best smoothies and delicious desserts throughout the rest of the year.

You’re going to love this recipe because it is healthy, quick to put together, and tastes like spring. And who doesn’t want a pop of bright fruit flavor to remind you that spring is indeed on its way?

Strawberry Smoothies are made with only 4 simple ingredients. They come together by blending frozen strawberries, vanilla Greek yogurt, banana, and almond milk. Add some crunchy granola to the top of the glass for a satisfying way to begin the day.

Strawberry Smoothie Recipe

What’s needed:

Fresh or Frozen Strawberries– I prefer to use frozen strawberries for this recipe, as it makes the smoothie cold and doesn’t require you to add ice to thicken it.

Vanilla or Strawberry Greek Yogurt– We always have Greek yogurt on hand to use in recipes or for a quick snack. Either strawberry or vanilla yogurt works well in this recipe, but we usually opt for vanilla.

Banana– One small banana blended into the mixture makes the smoothie thicker and adds sweetness.

Almond Milk– Use almond milk to make the smoothie creamy and rich. It also adds a slightly nutty flavor. Coconut milk is also a tasty, healthy choice. And of all of the dairy-free milks, coconut milk is the easiest to digest.

Granola– Add a sprinkle of granola to the top of the smoothie, if desired, to make it crunchy and give it texture. It is a complete meal in a glass!

What equipment is needed to make a smoothie?

I use a Nutri-Ninja Kitchen System for easy blending and an easy clean up. It includes a large pitcher for blending, a large bowl with handle for food processing, and a portable cup for mixing smoothies and shakes.

The crushing blades make it the perfect appliance to blend ice and frozen fruit. Use it for a variety of kitchen projects, including mixing dough, processing sauces, blending soups and more.

This 3-IN-1 Kitchen System makes a great addition to your collection of kitchen appliances. It can be found at Walmart.

How to make a Strawberry Smoothie

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  • Gather your ingredients, including frozen strawberries, vanilla Greek yogurt, almond milk and a small banana. Use a banana that has ripened and has brown spots, as it will be sweeter than less ripe ones.
  • Place all ingredients in the blender and blend on low for 30 seconds, until frozen fruit is incorporated. Add protein powder, if desired and pulse to combine.
  • Pour the smoothie into 2 glasses or portable cups and add crunchy granola and fresh fruit to the top of the smoothie, if desired. Recipe makes two 10-ounce servings.

What can I add to my smoothie?

Protein– Add plant-based protein powder, such as pea protein, to boost metabolism and nutrients in the smoothie. Pumpkin seeds add protein and are rich in antioxidants. Blend in chia seeds for a thicker smoothie and more protein.

Ice– If you use fresh strawberries, you may want to add ice to the blender to make your smoothie cold. Only add 1/2 cup of ice, as you don’t want to water it down.

More Fruit– Add half of an apple for sweetness, half of a peach for acidity, or a handful of raspberries for a tart flavor combination with the strawberries. Be careful about using too many fruits with seeds, as strawberries already contain hundreds of seeds.
